GMAT Sentence Correction Strategy
We have seen a lot of students struggling with sentence correction. Some of them get lost while reading the question, some get confused between the answer choices, and some find it difficult to understand the question.
In this blog, we will list out certain steps that will help you solve GMAT Sentence Correction (SC) problems in a faster and simpler way.
- Start with just going through the GMAT SC problem and understanding the type of problem (modifier, parallelism, idiom etc.), length of the problem and length of underlined part in the problem
- Now read the sentence and understand meaning of the sentence. If it doesn’t make sense, you can quickly eliminate answer option A for the GMAT SC problem
- Look for obvious errors in answer choices of GMAT SC problem to start with. You may spot the error or you may reach the end of the answer choice. If you are able to spot it, eliminate the answer choice and move on to the next choice. Follow this and eliminate all answer choices which have similar error
- Now if you are able to eliminate 4 out of 5 answer choices of the given GMAT SC problem, you have the correct answer. If you are stuck between 2 or 3 options and you are not able to eliminate them, then just move on. There is no point wasting time staring at the screen
- The most common problem is that people get stuck between 2 answer options for any given GMAT SC problem. Our suggestion would be to try once to eliminate 1 of the 2 options, else guess and move on
The toughest decision to make in GMAT is to figure out when to let go of that GMAT SC problem. More often than not, people end us wasting a lot of time on one problem and still don’t get it right. This creates additional pressure on them while they solve rest of the problems. At times they end up not having sufficient time to solve last 7-8 problems of the sections (which generally are easier) and either have to guess a series of problems (get a series of wrong answers) or leave few problems unanswered (both of these bring the score down drastically)
We hope the above GMAT Sentence Correction tips help you!!
